Dr. Agarwal’s Eye Hospital Educational workshop for ophthalmology students

Chennai, 17th August, 2017 - Dr. Agarwal’s Eye Hospital in association with its research and educational wing, Eye Research Centre, Chennaiis organisingthe 11th Annual Continuing Medical Educational (CME) programme – Kalpavriksha ’17, the National Post-Graduate Continuing Medical Educational programme for ophthalmology students. The three-day programmme was inaugurated by Prof. Dr. S. Geetha Lakshmi, Vice-Chancellor, Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University. The event was presided over by Dr. Amar Agarwal, Chairman and Managing Director, Dr. Agarwal’s Eye Hospital and Eye Research Centre.

Kalpavriksha ’17 includes Dr. Mrs. T Agarwal Award presented to the best student for exhibiting the most interesting case study in the programme.

Kalpavriksha, (meaning- wish fulfilling divine tree; that is a common trope in Sanskrit literature), the National Postgraduate CME programme attracts ophthalmology students from all over Indiamaking their learning more practical and interesting with exposure to various complicated procedures. A live surgery session has been introduced along with provision of interacting with the operating surgeon.

Inaugurating the three-day programme, Prof. Dr. Geetha Lakshmi, Vice Chancellor, Tamil Nadu M.G.R. Medical University said, “It is indeed my pleasure to inaugurateKalpavriksha.  I would like to praise the role of Dr. Agarwal’s Eye Hospital and Research Centre in providing ophthalmologists exposure to the latest procedures so that they can update their knowledge.”

Dr. Amar Agarwal, Chairman and Managing Director, Dr Agarwal’s Eye Hospitals said, “In this 11th year of Kalpavriksha, I wish to thank Tamil Nadu Dr M.G.R. Medical University, which allocated 30 points to our CME programme. This programme provides first hand tips from experienced faculties with presentation of clinical cases and an elaborate discussion during the three-day programme. This program would benefit both ophthalmologists in acquiring better skills and the larger community including patients whom we seek to serve.”


Attended by around 600 students from more than 50 medical colleges and institutes across India, Kalpavriksha provides a platform tolisten and interact with the faculties who are experts in their respective field of ophthalmology.

In practical session, every delegate will be briefed on some of the complicated cases like squint and diagnosing procedures like retinoscopy/gonioscopy. The participants are also provided with handouts, learning documents containing exposure to the latest Hi-tech Bio-medical equipments, which are available only in few of the leading eye hospitals in the country.
